Event Information

Mackay is a booming Queensland Region and the BMA Mackay Marina Run is the signature running event for the exciting and expanding City of Mackay. The event showcases the spectacular features of the tropical coastal city and celebrates the role that fun and fitness has in the community.

While attracting running enthusiasts from around the country it also has a key focus of attracting first time competitors through the provision of a half marathon, an eight kilometre run, a five kilometre fun run, five kilometre corporate challenge and three kilometre junior dash. Significant funds are raised for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Entertainment is provided at certain locations on the course including trad jazz, rock n roll and folk to enhance the great feel to the event.

Event Precinct

The event precinct and the finish line is the boat ramp end of the Marina Village. The start line is on the picturesque marina wall near the yacht club. See the precinct map under course maps.

All trophies are hand crafted out of ex Mackay Sugar cane railway sleepers which provide a unique Mackay feel to the event.

The Half Marathon and 8km races of the BMA Mackay Marina Run have an official cut-off time in which participants must complete their race. These cut off times are enforced to ensure that participants do not impede other races and that roads reopen to the public in accordance with the events permits.

North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP) Half Marathon

Age restrictions: Competitors must be 16 years of age at the time of the event
Distance: 21.1 km
Start time: 6.30 am
Recommended arrival time: 5.30 am
Cut-off Time: 9.30am

Course

The course is a flat and fast out and back course which features a 10km loop in the middle stage.

Runners enter the loop off Harbour Road and enter the goose pond walkways prior to the first Pioneer river crossing and into the city. The course winds past the newly extended Caneland shopping centre onto the blue water trail, through the city and returning to the marina via the second river crossing and Harbour Road.

Back at the marina the final 2kms is a circuit through the spectacular marina village.

The Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) 8km Run

Age restrictions: Competitors must be 12 years of age at the time of the event
Distance: 8 km
Start time: 7.00 am
Recommended arrival time: 6.00 am
Cut-off Time: 8.15am

Course

The 8km competitors will head towards the City with a turnaround on Harbour Road before returning for a 2 km final leg through the Marina Village.

The 5km course features a 1.5 km circuit through the marina village and an out and back loop on the marina wall before finishing at the Marina Village.

Additional Information

The race is a fun run by definition and attracts a heap of non-competitive runners and walkers. Families are encouraged to enter with their being many examples in the past of kids challenging Mum and Dad to the finish line.
For the competitive at heart there are always a number of swift runners up front to chase.
The start will be coordinated with competitive runners up the front and walkers at the rear.

Additional Information

The corporate challenge is no longer held concurrently run with the fun run and entrants will be called into the starting area after the last of the fun run competitors have commenced.  The event promotes team spirit and the advantages of fitness within organisations. Teams have heaps of fun with over 130 teams competing in 2014.

Teams are encouraged to dress up with the best dressed team also awarded a prize. Teams must have at least 3 members with a maximum of 10. Competitors can run or walk with a prize awarded for the fastest team. This is awarded on the basis of the fastest 3 finishers in each team. The start will be coordinated with competitive teams up front and walkers at the rear.

Teams have heaps of fun with 130 teams competing in 2014.

JSIS Engineering winning the most funds raised category for the seventh year running with over $6,000 raised.

Fastest team in 2014 was Warrior Performance Centre Team 2 with an aggregate time of 59.18
